img_0912-3We have had a lot of amazing and unexpected experiences during this campaign season, all the way back to the late January afternoon when Bros4Hillary was founded. We started as just a cheeky little Facebook page with a couple members and funny name. Fast forward to 20 days before the general election, and we are an advocacy group with 30,000 members and followers across various social media platforms. LGBTQ Nation named us one of the Top 8 People or Groups Working to Elect Hillary Clinton (on the same list as Ellen DeGeneres and Robby Mook!) and we developed an official partnership with the Clinton campaign to register voters and bolster phone-banking efforts.

We snapped selfies with Hillary, got to meet Robby Mook, and have even been in the news.
All of that was pretty awesome.

But this. This takes the cake. And we are  pretty sure this means we’ve finally made it:

Effective today, you can text us at the official Hillary for America phone number!
That’s right! TEXT ‘BROS’ TO 47246 now for special messages and updates direct from the Bros4Hillary and Hillary for America teams! As the final weeks of the campaign unfold, we will have fun and interesting tidbits available to you through our SMS number.
Onward Bros! And @#ImWithHer

The Silent Revolution

by Alex Mohajer

As the final days of the election season unfold, and the core theme propagated by both traditional and social media seems to be the ongoing scorched-earth tactics of her crumbling opponent, something profound and riveting is silently taking place with Hillary Clinton. Without fuss or controversy, in an unprecedented power play, Clinton’s camp is expanding to, and purchasing ad buys in, traditionally hands-off territory for democrats, like Texas, Georgia, and Alaska. Polling there suggests that not only is she competitive in these states, but that in some instances she is within the margin of error, and that she may be seizing on an opportunity to turn them blue.

While naysayers might be quick to dismiss this as a consequence of Trump’s continued downfall, such a dismissal of Clinton’s sheer fundraising prowess and organizational strength and support is a disservice. For all the bluster and pablum about her voters’ lack of enthusiasm, or her “unfavorables,” Hillary Clinton is silently leading an organized march that could see the largest voter turnout in American history, seismically shift the balance of power in down-ticket races, and bring about unprecedented change to the political landscape in Washington.

For the past sixteen months, Clinton has been steadfastly and meticulously crafting this movement, entering into a fundraising agreement with the Democratic National Committee that channels funds down-ticket to Democrats in races all over the country.  Meanwhile, underreported scenes from early voting stations in Georgia and Florida, receiving little to no media fanfare, reveal an army of voters, particularly women and African-Americans, turning out in droves to vote. On social media, a massive voter registration effort is underway. Since September 1st alone, Democrats have registered 50,000 more voters in Florida than Republicans. Clinton’s fundraising dominance is unmatched, including by President Obama or her husband, raising over $154 million in September alone.

To be sure, Clinton doesn’t need states like Georgia, Texas, or Alaska to win, and democratic strategists often don’t factor them into their strategy to reach the 270 electoral college votes necessary to win the presidency. As such, her camp’s expansion into traditional red states is even more monumental. While the headlines focus loudly on her opponent’s sexual transgressions or the brouhaha over her e-mails while Secretary of State, Clinton is dispatching her strongest assets, Michelle Obama, Elizabeth Warren, and Bernie Sanders, to republican strongholds like Arizona. Arizona isn’t a safe bet for Clinton, but her camp is looking at the bigger picture.

Suddenly, Senators Kelly Ayotte (R) of New Hampshire and John McCain (R) of Arizona are in fights for political survival. In Florida, Senator Marco Rubio (R) faces a legitimate threat to his seat in challenger Patrick Murphy (D). And it is no coincidence that the Clinton campaign, in a show of power and confidence, should expand now into those territories. Smelling blood in the water, Clinton is going for much more than the presidency.

Indeed, the Democrats may be poised to regain control of the Senate and to retake the House of Representatives, a Democratic “wave” that would radically shift the balance of power in Washington, serve as a mandate of Obama’s presidency, act as a unified show of support for Clinton, and a widespread rejection of GOP obstructionism and inaction.

Until recently, the prospect of Democrats retaking the House of Representatives in this election cycle was all but a pipe dream. But it has become an increasing real possibility, and Clinton is shrewdly channeling her resources into running up the score against her GOP rival with the hopes that Democrats will benefit down-ticket. The potential repercussions of a Clinton landslide are boundless. Current House speaker Paul Ryan (R) of Wisconsin has already fretted publicly that Senator Bernie Sanders (I) of Vermont, Secretary Clinton’s rival during the Democratic primaries, is poised to become the Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee.  Representative Nancy Pelosi (D) of California, the House minority leader who was ousted from the House speakership in 2010 when Democrats lost control of Congress in the mid-term elections, is poised now to retake her formerly held position, and join the first female president as the first (and second) Speaker of the House.

And it took a woman to do it.

Hillary Clinton is making history. She’s doing it with grace and with aplomb. She’s doing it in the face of daily, sinister, unmerited and unfair character assassination from the far left AND the far right. She’s doing it in defiance of the monumental institutionalized sexism and misogyny that is hurdled at her in every waking moment of the day. She’s doing it despite having to endure her opponent using tactics like rolling out her husband’s accusers and exploiting her personal pain for political capital. She’s doing it without complaint and while unjustly being denied the credit she’s due for making history.

Indeed, when all is said and done, it may be Hillary Clinton, in the end, who leads the silent revolution.

Donald Trump is an Imminent Threat to American Democracy

34818by Justin Aron

Over the weekend, Donald Trump went from scary and potentially dangerous to an imminent threat against American democracy in a single speech. In what began as a series of tweets last Saturday and has since become a full-fledged theme of his campaign, Donald Trump has publicly declared that this election is “100% rigged,” a by-product of an elaborate collusion between the Clinton campaign and the media.

In doing so, Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for president, has called into question the integrity of the American Democratic process. I realize many of you probably digested that as more of the same old rhetoric that we have been getting for almost 15 months. We have all grown sort of numb and unaffected by this rhetoric. This is not like everything before. This is different.

A statement of that magnitude has NEVER been stated, by a major party candidate, in our country’s history.

Our democratic process and electoral system are held in the highest esteem by virtually every elected official in our country, Republicans and Democrats alike.

Today, more than ever, I have a great deal of respect for Speaker Paul Ryan. His swift and stern denouncement of Trump’s allegations were not only welcome, but they were appreciated.

I do not dismiss the notion that our two-party system is fraught with problems. That goes without question. However, calling into question and undermining public faith and confidence in our electoral system in unmerited and false accusations is an affront to the legitimacy of this government and our forefathers.

If you have grown tired and weary of this election, I understand. If you are worn out with the scorched earth themes that it appears we are destined for over the next three weeks, I understand.

But let me be clear, DO NOT forget what is at stake on November 8th. This is not an election between a Democrat and a Republican. This is an election between a candidate and a demagogue. This is an election between someone who thinks America is great and someone who thinks America needs to be made great again.

If you are female, African-American, Latino, Asian-American, foreign-born, Muslim, gay, transgender, or hell, a decent human being, you CAN NOT sit out this election. This not the election to voice your libertarianism or to protest the two-party system, or to write-in your opposition candidate.

If you have reservations about Hillary, that is fine. When the threat to American Democracy has been defeated, make sure to hold her accountable. If you are willing to risk “burning it down” by voting in protest or not voting at all, don’t complain when a figure of speech becomes a reality. This year, the choice is Hillary or Trump. There is no viable third party candidate.

You need to go vote. Vote by mail, vote early in person, secure an absentee ballot, or simply show up to a ballot box on November 8th, because I guarantee you one thing: Every person that thinks America needs to be made great again will be there. And the question of what period of time Donald Trump proposes we return to so as to restore our greatness is one that has gone unanswered.

Where Have All The Deplorables Gone? [Potentially NSFW]

by Katharine Rose

[Editor’s Note: Some of the language contained in the following editorial may be potentially offensive or triggering to some readers, or inappropriate for children. -AM]

Even after the ballots are counted, lawn signs removed, and “Madam President” becomes familiar rolling off of our tongues, we will not have to look far to see the continued red-hot anger and hatred flowing from Donald Trump’s supporters. The basket has no lid.

“Hang her!” “Murderer!” “Liar!”

“Bitch.” “Cunt.” “Whore.”

The list of shocking and offensive pejoratives seems to continue ad infinitum, especially in the Twittersphere, where one need look no further for examples than our very own Bros4Hillary Twitter feed, a frequent target for trolls who support the Republican nominee.  But offline, these words can be heard chanted at virtually every Trump rally and can be seen on buttons, bumper stickers, t-shirts, and lawn signs set proudly on display for all to see. For children to see.

A kind of mob mentality has consumed the Republican electorate and has snowballed so far out of control that they are now turning on their own party in a blind frenzy. The Republican Party has imploded and Trump has given his blessing for the “Deplorables,” as they have come to be known, to openly demonstrate their misogyny, racism, and xenophobia.

Indeed, to the Deplorables, spewing this vile language feels as good as taking a tight bra off at the end of a long day.

I Can’t Wait For This Election To Be Over!

Except it won’t really be over. On November 9th, Americans will be able to watch television without being assaulted by vile political ads, Hillary will likely forego any plans for a nap and diligently start planning her transition to the White House, and her supporters will finally be able to breathe a sigh of relief that this nightmare of a campaign season is over.

Soon, however, we will need to start facing an unfortunate reality: that a new (or perhaps, renewed) sociopolitical climate has inevitably been born from this campaign, one where millions of Americans are enraged by their misguided belief that a woman, for whom they feel a visceral hatred, rigged the system and stole the election from their messiah. One where an entire portion of the electorate is comprised of angry and disenfranchised white people, terrified of the impending minority take-over, duped to believe that the source of their economic stagnancy is the woman who was just elected president over their conspiracy theory-laden objections and assassinations of her character.

untitled3If we think that the anger in America is bad now, we still haven’t seen the long term effects of Trump’s rhetoric on his impressionable voter-base. What we know is this: in a matter of months, Donald Trump and his surrogates have erased a great deal of the progress we have made in the past fifty years regarding gender and race equality. The central tenet of Donald Trump’s campaign has been the confounding slogan and sort of Trumponian war cry, “Make America Great Again.”

Great again? It is not clear what period of time Mr. Trump would like to go back to so as to restore America’s greatness, but apparently, the “progress” we have made in the interim was merely a smokescreen called “political correctness.”

And we all know how Trump and the Deplorables feel about being politically correct.

The hate never went away. It was just pushed down below the surface. Pushed into the closet, if you will. Now the closet door has blown off the hinges and it’s contents can no longer be contained.

Happy Coming Out Day!

In June 2013, the Supreme Court struck down Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act, the provision that specified which portions of the country were required to have amendments to their voting laws cleared by the federal government or in federal court. In his rationale, Chief Justice John Roberts, representing the majority in the 5-4 ruling, basically opined (and I’m paraphrasing here) that that racism is over. Conventional wisdom told us that SCOTUS was wrong but I confess, I had hoped that maybe the lid that had been put on racism had silenced it enough that we could hope for its extinction through generational attrition of derogatory language and thought. I had hoped that our grandchildren would grow up believing that everyone is created equal.

Super classy, bro.

Then Donald Trump announced his candidacy for president in June 2015.  What ensued has been 16-months of Donald Trump and the Deplorables. The news is scattered with daily stories evidencing the repercussions of his hateful campaign rhetoric: children on playgrounds taunting their darker-skinned classmates with threats of deportation, at rallies yelling “take that bitch down” while standing next to proud papas wearing t-shirts urging “Trump That Bitch” and “I Wish Hillary Had Married OJ.”

We’re witnessing the birth of an entirely new generation of bigots. This new bigotry expands beyond their grandfathers’ hatred of “colored folks” and now includes hatred of women, foreigners, non-Christians, the educated, LGBTQ, and pretty much anyone who knows the difference between “your” and “you’re.”

This Isn’t Over, Folks.

Not by a long shot. Eight years of being bossed around by a Kenyan-born black man followed up with being bossed around by a lying, amoral greed-monger (aka, any woman seeking promotion in a society with deeply institutionalized gender biases) is simply more than the Deplorables can bear.

Trump’s “scorched earth” approach to the final days of his ultimately divisive and harmful campaign may be a sign of things to come.  Just as Trump is burning down the GOP, his supporters have been emboldened, given a platform, and told that their words and actions are acceptable. The media’s ultimate failure to fulfill its role as societal gatekeeper earlier on in this process shall have negative long-term repercussions on the American psyche as the Deplorables carry the mantle well after the election is over.

Therefore, a resounding Hillary Clinton victory sends our children and our society an imperative message: love and unity wins out in the end. That a woman whose campaign slogans are “Love Trumps Hate” and “Stronger Together” can prevail over a man who we know now has abused women. We must reject with a united and immovable voice the hatred and bigotry that the Deplorables now feel is the America that is possible.

“I am the last thing standing between you and the apocalypse,” Hillary joked recently at a high-profile fundraiser.

They say there’s a grain of truth in every joke.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Grassroots Advocacy Group Bros4Hillary, Founded by Philippines-Born Nelson Melegrito, Celebrates Filipino American History Month

Bros4Hillary Founder Nelson Melegrito
Bros4Hillary Founder Nelson Melegrito

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – It is just past midnight in the wee hours of Saturday morning, and Nelson Melegrito is engaged in an unplanned and unexpected late night strategy discussion with the Executive Board of Bros4Hillary, the grassroots advocacy organization he founded in January of this year as a means of demonstrating and rallying support for Hillary Clinton’s presidential ambitions. The emergency meeting has been called in light of a video that has surfaced, nearly one month before Americans cast their vote in the general election, that reveals the Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump, boasting about committing sexual assault against women.

Just past midnight on the west coast, Trump released an eagerly-anticipated apology video that has left a lot to be desired. The Bros team is deciding how to move forward strategically in terms of messaging to maximize potential voter turnout in the wake of this October Surprise. With 30,000 members across its various social media platforms, and millions of twitter impressions, Bros4Hillary has become a surprising source of influence in this year’s election. So much so, that Hillary Clinton’s official campaign, Hillary for America, recently partnered with Bros4Hillary to assist in their social media outreach to potential voters. In short, how Melegrito and his team decide to respond to the Trump controversy will be seen by a LOT of people.

Such is a day in the life of Nelson Melegrito, a Filipino American who has become an unlikely voice. Melegrito was born in the Philippines and raised in Los Angeles, and migrated to the United States to seek better opportunities for himself and his family. He never anticipated the success of Bros4Hillary, which started as 200 followers on Facebook but has exploded into a volunteer advocacy organization with a social media network, operations, and staff of volunteers. Melegrito’s roots, and the growth of Bros4Hillary, are a point of pride for Melegrito, especially as Hillary Clinton publicly acknowledged recently that October is Filipino American History Month.

Accordingly, the group has decided to honor their leader by observing Filipino American History Month and is asking that the rest of America follow suit.

“Being of Filipino heritage and the leader of one of the largest Hillary Clinton advocacy groups in the country, I am proud to join my Filipino brothers and sisters in observing October as Filipino American History Month. Filipinos are the second largest Asian American group in the country and the largest Asian American group in 11 of the 50 states. Our heritage has been at the forefront of history,” Melegrito said in an official statement.

Filipinos indeed have an illustrious history and have made their mark on America’s intricate fabric.  Melegrito cites to various accomplishments by Filipino Americans when asked about some that are particularly notable. “250,000 brave soldiers fighting with Americans deservingly recognized as the only ethnic group awarded with a Congressional medal!” Melegrito said, passionately. “The American labor movement with heroes like Larry Itliong and Philip Vera Cruz that led to the formation of United Farm Workers Union and the EDSA revolution. Or ‘People Power,’ when the world witnessed the toppling of a dictator from power because of the need for an end of political oligarchy.”

Besides Bros4Hillary, Melegrito is currently the Executive Director of DIVA: Diverse and Inclusive Visionary Artists, a grassroots organization whose mission is to promote the creative endeavors of multi-ethnic artists and professionals in the mainstream media through various alliances with other community groups, special events and mentorship programs.

Throughout the past two decades, Melegrito has served as a volunteer for Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, The Trevor Project, GLAAD, Outfest,,, APAIT, and is presently working with Groundworks in their myriad election propositions and candidates’ groundwork campaigns.

A lover of pop culture and politics, he considers strong men and women as his role models to shape his ever fluid career in these discipline from Madonna, Maya Angelou, Michelle Obama, Malala Yousifazi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King, Jr. So it is no wonder he has taken up the challenge of electing Hillary Clinton to the White House.

“I am blessed to have known and worked with outstanding leaders and role models in the Filipino community who have bravely fought to have their voices heard and their unique talent shared. It is their selfless compassion and sheer moral guidance that led me to form organizations that promote the contributions of multi-ethnic artists and now, to lead an advocacy group of volunteers and close to 30,000 members to elect the first woman leader of the most powerful nation. Hillary Clinton would no doubt continue to recognize the multitude of contributions of the Filipino community to extend our enduring productive relationship between the United States and the Philippines.”

“Please join me and my fellow Filipino Americans in celebrating this joyous celebration of hope, positive alliances and continued prosperity.”

The Truth About Hillary Clinton

Colin and Hill
Bros4Hillary Guest Contributor Colin Ebeling and his “Aunt” Hillary.

By Colin Ebeling

I’ve known Hillary Clinton since my early childhood. She and my mother have been best friends since they were little girls growing up in Park Ridge, IL. As a child, I knew Hillary not as a powerful attorney, child advocate or the First Lady of Arkansas, but rather as Chelsea’s mom — a warm, funny lady who taught me how copious amounts of hot sauce on your scrambled eggs will keep you healthy.

To see Hillary portrayed as an evil, conniving criminal is baffling to me. Throughout my life, I have only known her as my mom’s most supportive and loving friend. Hillary took me on my first roller coaster ride when I was 12 years old. She spoke at my high school commencement ceremony and took photos with every single one of my classmates. The woman who signs her letters as “Aunt Hillary” congratulated me when I came out of the closet, when I got my pilot’s license, when I married my husband and when we adopted our baby girl. She checked in with my family regularly while my mom underwent surgery and treatment for breast cancer.

All grown up with kids of his own. Colin in Los Angeles with his daughter Campbell.

I often send Hillary photos of my daughter and she always writes me back immediately, telling me which photo is her
favorite and how she can’t wait to give the little one a squeeze.

Hillary has included me and my husband in countless events over the years and always greets us with warmth and sincere affection. Several times, we’ve had the privilege to sit down with her and swap stories and, let me tell you, this woman can tell one hell of a story. Her dry wit rivals some of the best sit-com writers I’ve had the pleasure to work with. I’ve even witnessed her make her husband Bill laugh until he has tears streaming out of his eyes.

So it truly pains me to see this smart, caring woman made out to be some sort of monster. I don’t know if I should blame the scandal hungry media, a right wing conspiracy or her current political opponent, but whatever the case, I can promise you that Hillary Clinton is, as my mom puts it, a good girl. I am truly blessed to know her and to have been raised with her as a role model of how one can be driven and accomplished while remaining humble, personable and kind.

When you cast your vote for Hillary, I just want you to know you’re backing not only the most qualified presidential candidate in history, but a real person, a woman who values family, friendship and service to her fellow Americans above all else. You’ll be sending a message to my daughter that she can accomplish anything she sets her mind to. You’ll be electing a good girl. So for the next few weeks, put a few extra drops of Tabasco on your omelette — the American people need you to be healthy on November 8!

On the 12th Day of Hillary: VOTE, BRO!

14625274_10209562105782851_1029016749_nThe #12DaysofHillary are coming to a close today. It has been a pleasure working on this mini-campaign to try and reach as many potential and swing state voters as we could.

On the final day of our little stunt, we want to just encourage you all to get out there and actually vote. All of this effort registering voters and going through this tumultuous election season will be all for naught if people assume that a victory is clinched or that their vote doesn’t matter…and that they can stay home.

There is a huge concern that millennials will not get out to the polls, either because of apathy or because they assume Hillary has this in the bag. But if enough people subscribe to that notion, then the whole premise is turned on its head. As a millennial myself, I can tell you that most of our executive board and a majority of our 30,000 members and followers are millennials. We care. And you need look no further than right here to see that the “enthusiasm gap” so thoroughly described by the media to describe Hillary Clinton’s weaknesses is a myth.

But we have to get out there and VOTE. Let’s show the world that we will carry Hillary the way we did Obama. Let’s make history.

Early voting started today in Ohio. Get out there and vote, Bro. What would LeBron James do? Well, he endorsed Hillary. So Ohioans…get out there today and VOTE.

Early voting will soon start in a slew of other states. The Associated Press is reporting that early voting will actually decide this election in October. Meaning by the time America takes to the polls on November 8th, this election will have quietly already been decided.

If you haven’t registered yet:

So make your voice heard. We here at Bros4Hillary have been working so hard day in and day out since January boost voter participation and engagement, and to boost registration and reach swing state voters with phone calls. We hope that you will join us in helping elect Hillary Rodham Clinton the next President of the United States.

I want to thank our invaluable Social Media Outreach Team, particularly our SMOT Team Leader Priscilla Wagner, who designed all of the memes for the #12DaysofHillary. I also want to thank Katharine Rose, our Political Researcher, who researched all of the voter registration deadlines and early voting periods and created swing state voter registration memes that we have been distributing throughout the 12 Days. Thanks for being invaluable assets to our team.

A14643178_10209544123053294_631391809_ns Hillary might say, “Woo!” (Shimmy, shimmy, shimmy)

Did everyone check out the debate last night? Donald Trump was unhinged, pacing maniacally, and looming over Hillary like an absolute predator. Whether this was intentional intimidation tactics or whether he is just coming apart at the seams, it was disgusting to watch. And his tactic of attacking her with lies, threats of jails, and by using her husband’s past indiscretions was a travesty. Hillary Clinton, having worked her whole life towards this moment of being given the honor of standing on the debate stage seeking the highest land in the office as the first woman nominated to a major nominee for president, facing this trashy display.

As we enter the final thirty days of the campaign, the #12DaysofHillary are coming to a close. And on the #10thDayofHillary, show that you are with her by attending a local event.
